TROUBLESHOOTING
ELECTRICAL EQUIPMENT




  1. CHECK TO DETERMINE IF THE SUPPLY CORD, ELECTRICAL SUPPLY TO THE UNIT IS PROPERLY CONNECTED AND GROUNDED.
  2. THE UNIT SHOULD BE AT ROOM TEMPERATURE.
  3. ALLOW THE UNIT TO COOL DOWN BEFORE TAKING THE UNIT APART.
  4. THE MATERIAL MUST BE IN A NON-LIQUID STATE.
  5. IF THE MATERIAL IS LIQUID THEN IT MUST BE PROPERLY EMPTIED INTO A CONTAINER AND HELD UNTILL IT IS REPLACED INTO THE VESSEL.
  6. DISCONNECT THE ELECTRICAL SUPPLY CORDS OR WIRING HARNESSES FROM THE UNIT.
  7. TURN THE UNIT UPSIDE DOWN ON A TABLE.
  8. REMOVE THE BASE OF THE UNIT AND SAVE ALL PARTS.
  9. NOTE THE LOCATION OF THE THERMOSTAT BULBS AND THE METHOD OF FASTENING TO THE UNIT. DO NOT KINK THE CAPILLARY TUBE OF THE THERMOSTAT. TO DO SO WILL DAMAGE THE THERMOSRAT BEYOND REPAIR. THE THERMOSTAT WILL HAVE TO BE REPLACED.
  10. THE ROUTING OF THE CAPILLARY AWAY FROM ALL THE ELECTRICAL TERMINATIONS AND ELECTRIC BUSS BARS IS VERY CRITICAL.
  11. DISCONNECT ALL THE POWER SUPPLY LEADS TO THE ELEMENTS.
  12. REMOVE THE CERAMIC INSULATION INBETWEEN THE ELEMENTS AND THE JACKET WALL.
  13. REMOVE THE JACKET FROM THE UNIT.
  14. MAKE AN ELECTRICAL DIAGRAM OF THE ELEMENTS BEFORE THE ELECTRICAL CONNECTIONS ARE REMOVED FROM THE INDIVIDUAL HEATERS.
  15. TEST EACH ELEMENT FOR A RESISTANCE VALUE AND CONTINUITY WITH AN OHMMETER.
  16. THE UNITS THAT ARE OPEN (RESISTANCE = INFINITY), NEED TO BE REPLACED.
  17. TEST THE THERMOSTAT FOR PROPER FUNCTIONING. (TURN THE KNOB AND THERE SHOULD BE A CLICKING SOUND AND THE TERMINAL RESISTANCE WHEN THE THERMOSTAT IS CALLING FOR HEAT SHOULD BE A LOW VALUE. WHEN THE THERMOSTAT IS NOT CALLING FOR HEAT THE RESISTANCE SHOULD BE INFINITY.)
  18. THE UNITS THAT HAVE RESISTANCE ARE FUNCTIONING.
  19. ORDER THE ELEMENTS THAT ARE OPEN.
  20. REPLACE THE UNITS AND REWIRE THE ELEMENTS AS PER THE POINT-TO-POINT ELECTRICAL DIAGRAM THAT YOU HAVE DRAWN.
  21. REPLACE THE INSULATION AROUND THE ELEMENTS.
  22. REPLACE THE JACKET.
  23. REPLACE THE THERMOSTAT BULB IN THE ORIGINAL POSITION (DO NOT KINK THE CAPILLARY OF THE UNIT).
  24. INSURE THAT THE CAPILIARY IS ROUTED AWAY FROM THE WIRING CONNECTIONS ON THE ELEMENTS, AND ELECTRIC BUSS BARS.
  25. RECONNECT ALL THE POWER WIRING CONNECTIONS IN THE PROPER SEQUENCE.
  26. REPLACE THE BOTTOM OF THE UNIT.
  27. REPLACE THE HARDWARE FOR THE BOTTOM.
  28. TURN THE UNIT BACK TO THE RIGHT SIDE UP.
  29. CONNECT THE POWER SUPPLY CONNECTIONS TO THE UNIT.
  30. CHECK TO INSURE THE GROUND CONNECTION IS COMPLETED PROPERLY.
  31. REPLACE ALL THE MATERIAL INTO THE UNIT.
  32. TURN THE UNIT ON.
